I am a firm believer that looking presentable and polished, even when you stay at home is a valuable thing. I started working from home about 7 years ago. What I realized in all those years is this: when I dress and groom up even when I am at home- I get a boost of motivation and confidence.
So whether you are a stay at home parent, a work from home or self-employed mom, here is why I believe making the effort to look nice is a must.

Why Dressing Up Even When You Work from Home is A Good Practice?
It boosts your self esteem. Imagine what a swipe of lipstick could do. It gives you power. It’s as if you are ready take on the world (or toddler meltdowns, laundry or even dirty dishes, yes!) You are polished. You look good. You feel good. You are here to slay the day.
It builds confidence within. In her book called “The Makeup of a Confident Woman“, Trish McEvoy explains the value of beauty confidence. Positive self image inspires optimism and calmness. And when you take the time to present yourself in the best way, you are essentially working from the outside in. There is power in beauty confidence, in a face that is well-presented. It can influence the way you regard yourself and the way others regard you.
Makes you feel more equipped and ready to take on the day. If you see yourself in the mirror, and you like what you see, it uplifts your vibe. You are more inclined to make empowering choices and decisions.
Makes you Vibrant and Light. Self-image is important. Even if the only person in the room is you, knowing you made an effort to look nice makes you feel more joyful. Yo love what you see. Again, it is all about vibes. And you get to radiate it out to the world.
Even if things go awry- you are in a better position to handle them. I don’t know why.. but handling setbacks is internally more difficult when I do not look put together. There is just this boost of motivation if I am polished, compared to when I look like I just woke up.
If you work from home or you are self employed, you feel more inclined to work. Dressing up gives you that mental note that this is a time for working and productivity. It sets the work hours apart from the non-work hours.
Tips to Grooming and Dressing Up for Yourself At Home
Note that I am not suggesting that you glam up (but if you want to, you can). Looking put together and wearing something that is not a pajama is the basic idea of dressing up for the day.
With these tips in mind, and in conjunction with a solid morning routine and a dose of positivity each day , you indeed, set yourself up for success.
Skin Care
Having any form of skin care that works for you is vital. I keep my routine simple and affordable. Even if you are just at home, prepare and get ready for the day!
Make Up
For moms, if you want something that is not as heavy to even out your face, try a BB or CC cream. This has built in SPF in it, so it serves double purpose. It also gives sheer coverage, and a radiant look without the heavy make up.
Clothes
Basic plain tee shirts and jeans are my usual go-to. Plain shirts are inexpensive, and you can wear them on rotation, week after week.
I suggest that you keep things basic and simple, so even if you have to wear them on rotation for months, (even years!) your outfit won’t look repetitive.
Whatever you choose, leave room for fun, and make sure you get to wear clothes that feel and look nice to you! Because if they don’t, what is the point?
Conclusion
Dressing up even when you work from home or stay at home is a great practice to boost your productivity, confidence and esteem. It is not about impressing anyone, but it is a form of self care, work ethic and finding joy!
