Why I Love Working Out at Home vs Going to the Gym
I have been working out at home for the last 12 years. The accessibility and ease of doing it all at home just works for me. Do you love working out at home or going to the gym?

As for me, one thing has majorly let home workouts win over the gym: Motherhood. Yes. Motherhood happened. And home work outs are just the perfect thing for me in this stage of my life.
You may have other reasons as to why you prefer home workouts. But ultimately, working out at home vs going to the gym is a decision that will be determined by your needs, resources, and the current phase of your life.
Why I Love Working Out at Home
Convenience and Accessibility
No driving. No travel, and that alone saves time. I love that I can squeeze in a session whenever my life permits. Because of this, a home workout can easily be a part of your morning routine.
Comfort and Privacy
While I love the energy of being surrounded by people in a workout class, I am still an extremely introverted person.
Especially when I am doing a slower paced or a solemn routine like yoga, I just love the feeling of solitude.
Cost-effectiveness
Compared to gym memberships, working out from home can be totally free. There are lots of free workout videos on youtube that you can choose from. Options for your preferred variety and styles are plenty. You can choose to pay subscriptions if you want that route, but know that you can totally workout at home for free.
Check out my favorite female workout channels on YouTube (all are free!). My current favorite paid subscriptions are Find What Feels Good, MadFit and Fit with Coco.
Flexibility and Customization
Nothing fits your schedule as flexible as a home workout. Your hours, frequency and durations- all yours to control.
And since you can choose from a wide array of workout options, you can definitely mix up your type of workout, depending on what you truly enjoy.
Exercise in Your Own Environments
You can bring your workout videos anywhere there is internet. So you are not really confined at home. If you are using a paid subscription, some apps allow you to download exercise videos so you can watch it offline.
At home or vacations, you can take your workouts with you.
Personalized Accountability of Working out at Home
When working out at home, I love the simplicity of setting simple goals to establish accountability in your work out system. Depending on what your final goals are, you can set simple tasks like how many times to workout in a week, or setting up a goal weight, and so on.
So in conclusion
Working out at home checks off the boxes for me when considering factors like time saving and management, cost efficiency and flexibility towards my current lifestyle.

My Tips in Establishing A Home Workout
- My best tip for establishing a home workout routine is to first determine what type of physical activity that is enjoyable and sustainable for you to do.
- Then, find some free videos of online fitness instructors whose style speaks to you.
- Lastly, do not decide where the journey ends! Be open to trying new things. My first love is yoga. I love what it does to my body, my spirit and my mental health. But I also started to love Pilates as a result of my love for yoga. And from Pilates, I realized my body also loves lifting weights!
- It is definitely a journey. What seems to be a simple intention to have a form of physical activity became a beautiful journey of discovering what my body can and loves to do. It is fun and exciting!
