What is Your Corner? (What Inspires You?)

What inspires you? Do you get to do it? Being a mother of three, it is often hard to find solace these days. For me, my most quiet time would be when I make time– that is waking up before my kids do and doing my morning ritual.

Just this summer, I find myself spreading out in all directions. My school girls were home all day, my husband works from home and my little baby boy is creating havoc, a ball of energy and neediness in his waking hours.
Any attempt at doing or thinking about something gets interrupted every 5-12 minutes.

But you know, there are rare golden hours or heck, golden minutes: Once in a while, my husband will take the kids with him for a stroll, or for a quick errand.

Once in a while, my youngest will sleep early for the night, my girls on their gadgets. But then, I know what most of us, parents, will do, catch up on pending housework, the dishes, the unfolded laundry, and maybe take a shower. Heck, I will scroll on my phone, to be honest.

But then again, do you have this corner where you would like to curl into a ball and not be seen for a while? I always get reminded of this corner back in my childhood days. That corner in the bedroom where I will read, write my poems, write in my diary, and daydream.

I think we all have this corner, and now as parents, an imaginary corner if you will. An imaginary corner to do what seems like “nothing” but actually, it’s an act of re-fueling your energy. What inspires you? What is your corner? Mine is reading a book under a cozy blanket until I fall asleep.

What replenishes you? Mine is good music that either melts my heart or makes me dance. Or singing my heart out. Mine is silence, solitude, even for just a short while. Writing lifts me up. Fiddling with a pen and notebook, planners, notepads, and stationeries.

A feel-good movie or a tear-jerker- hard to choose. What makes you feel alive, those things that do not have something to do with being a parent or a spouse. Just you, the younger you. The kid in you.

What is your (imaginary) corner? Do you still get to visit it? I would like to know!
