Jeans, Lately.
The unspoken conversation about shopping for jeans, and the ever changing woman body.
After years of mostly wearing leggings, most especially those few years after giving birth to all my three kids, I now find myself loving jeans once more. And not only loving them, I am partial now to trying new cuts and styles, as oppose to the skinny jeans that I am accustomed to wearing before.
After bearing children, I have found greatest value in high waist jeans. They keep my tummy intact, especially if they are stretchy.
However, there is a learning curve towards mom jeans. Okay, they are high waisted, which I love, but they can also be of little to no stretch at all.
I cannot count how many times I stand frustrated in front of a mirror, with jeans that I can barely zip and button around my waist. I love to love the mom jeans concept, but my body just doesn’t. I do not know if it looks good at all. It’s definitely not comfy at all.

My Perfect Comfy Mom Jeans
But I have to have some jeans in my wardrobe. IF you read through my post about the comfy mom boots, you will know how I value regaining my passion for clothing and style again, after years of actually wearing breastfeeding-friendly clothes and just over all functional, no-style outfit.
After lots of frustrated try-ons, it dawned on me, that the real comfy mom jeans cannot be acquired just by trying to fit in to the marketed mom jeans that can be comfortably worn by some women and not all.
A comfy mom jeans is acquired by having the grace to finally accept that my body is not what is used to be before. Pre-kids, throw in any small size jeans to my cart, and they will fit quite nicely.
Now, I shop for jeans with the attitude of my younger self, throwing in the size 27s and 28s, and size 4s, expecting that everything will most likely fit. Then they don’t.
My body is not just the same. Even if a jeans fit nicely on my legs and thighs, it will be very snug on my waist. And sometimes, even if it fits, it will not look exactly as the way it did before. Somethings has changed that you cannot simply point out.

My Personal Jeans Code
- Have the grace to accept that I need to up my size, no matter what the number is. Comfort cannot be compromised.
- My body is not the same as before, and sometimes I need to adapt the way I shop for clothes. Now I make peace with the fact that I need to up my size so that I can breathe in my jeans, even if it means they are a little loose on my legs.
- Never stop innovating, trying something new and never lose the sense of play, creativity and passion when it comes to dressing up.
- I dress for me. I am passionate and joyful about dressing up and I love the way it makes me feel. I love the confidence boost. It is never about showing off, or vanity. All is play.
