8 Simple Tools To Feel Good
We all want to feel good, don’t we? However, it is important to consider that feeling good is something we cultivate from within. It is not dependent on what others do, how others behave, and what is going on around you.
If at any time, you feel less than amazing, you don’t have to beat yourself up for that. First, be at peace with what is and know that it is temporary. Second, know that you can make little shifts to feel relief, and eventually feel good.
Below are some tools I use whenever I want to boost my mood or to gently divert a heavy feeling or energy.
8 Simple Tools To Feel Good
Music. This one is so simple yet often so overlooked. Personally, I always forget how music can uplift my current mood. In my busy days as a work-at-home mom, I often neglect how simple music in the background while I make breakfast can truly influence my energy. It is only a few clicks on my phone, yet I often feel so busy to stop and do that. So music, my friends. Let’s not forget. It is one of the proven tools.
Books. I have to include this because books are life-changers for me. Books give a new perspective and allow me to consider many ways to deal with fear, worry, and life in general. I do believe that every book I ever read was sent my way for a purpose. Slowly but surely, book by book, I become closer to finding my joy, my myself and the divinity of everything. Whoa, that’s deep.
On a lighter approach, I believe books stimulate you and make you consider different approaches to anything in general. Also, if you are into fiction, you are in for such a leisurely time with yourself, reading and getting lost in a story. To me that is priceless!
Podcasts. If you are not into reading, podcasts are a great tool to breathe in new inspiration, fun, and information. Like books, there is a wide array of podcast topics you can choose from. You can choose one that resonates most with you. The joy is having the freedom to choose what to listen to. I listen to my podcasts on Spotify. Other platforms are Stitcher and itunes. Try and explore, who knows, tomorrow you might have a new show that you will come back to over and over.
Inspirational Videos. Do you like more visuals? There are lots of inspiring videos that you can watch on Youtube. I play one as a background while I do my morning skincare in the bathroom. Try listening to Dr. Wayne Dyer, TED Talks, Super Soul Sundays, and many more. Not into inspirational videos? Then choose one that makes you laugh, or melts your heart. Again, the world is your option. There is always one video or two that is most suited to what you are currently feeling at any moment. Consider the possibility that you are guided to that one video that you need.
Meditation. While meditation may not be for everyone, I encourage you to approach it differently if you are not one to sit still and close your eyes for a certain period of time. For me, meditation can take different forms. It can be writing in a journal. Writing it out sorts the clutter out, and too often, I find that writing out my thoughts and emotions gives me a release from any hazy mental state.
You can also sit alone quietly and just breathe. Be silent. The practice of meditation is not a process to clear your mind, but to consider that the mind has a life of its own. The thoughts will run through it from time to time, and non-stop even. But when you meditate, you step back and observe the mind’s natural tendency, and know while the thoughts and worries are non-stop, the reality is that you are sitting there and that you are okay.
Gratitude List. Make a gratitude list on your phone, in a notebook, or on a board. Even try One Sentence Gratitude Practice. Writing things that you are grateful for reminds you that life is not all that bad. It makes you focus on your blessings and takes your attention away from the thoughts that make you suffer. It allows you to have a little shift in your attitude, so you can move forward to the day with more ease, positivity, and hope.
Activities that You Enjoy. Again, let us not underestimate the power of doing the things you love. Do you love cooking? Playing an instrument? Drawing? You all know I love Yoga and baking. They give me so much joy. What gives you joy? Do more of that.
Change it up, Explore and Try New Things. Some of this you already do, and some you forget to employ. I hope these 8 simple tools to feel good remind you of what brings you joy. These are the tools that I am sharing with you. But you are you, and you can use this list as it fits but don’t forget the fact that you are unique. So try these things and see what works, then change it up and explore new things.
